【摘要】:Thisguidedescribesthedesign,selectionconsiderations,andinstallationproceduresfortheplacementofpolyethylenepipeorconduitbelowgroundusingmaxi-horizontaldirectionaldrillingequipment.Thepipesorconduitsmaybeusedforvariousapplicationsincludingtelecommunications,electricpower,naturalgas,petroleum,waterlines,sewerlines,orotherfluidtransport.Horizontaldirectionaldrillingisaformoftrenchlesstechnology.Theequipmentandproceduresareintendedtominimizesurfacedamage,restorationrequirements,anddisruptionofvehicularormaritimetrafficwithlittleornointerruptionofotherexistinglinesorservices.Mini-horizontaldirectionaldrilling(min-HDD)istypicallyusedfortherelativelyshorterdistancesandsmallerdiameterpipesassociatedwithlocalutilitydistributionlines.Incomparison,maxi-horizontaldirectiondrilling(maxi-HDD)istypicallyusedforlongerdistancesandlargerdiameterpipescommoninmajorrivercrossings.Applicationsthatareintermediatetothemini-HDDormaxi-HDDcategoriesmayutilizeappropriate"medi"equipmentofintermediatesizeandcapabilities.Insuchcases,thedesignguidelinesandinstallationpracticeswouldfollowthosedescribedforthemini-ormaxi-HDDcategories,asjudgedtobemostsuitableforeachsituation.Thevaluesstatedininch-poundunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.Thevaluesgiveninparenthesesareforinformationpurposesonly.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.Section6containsgeneralsafetyinformationrelatedtotheuseofmaxi-horizontaldirectionaldrillingequipment.
